LENTON® SPEED SLEEVE is the ideal mechanical splice for compression-only steel reinforcement applications. The system is designed to allow compressive loads to be transferred by aligning square cut rebar to bear on one another.

By Generic Description:
On jobs requiring a generic description (usually government specifications prohibit the use of a proprietary name), use the following description:

Type of splice required is sleeve to hold square-cut rebar ends in concentric contact for transmission of compression strength (state the applicable strength).

Installation Information
SPEED SLEEVE is a proven quick and economical method of making compression splice for steel reinforcement. LENTON SPEED SLEEVE can be easily installed in seconds.

Bar End Preparation
1. Bar ends should be prepared by saw cutting or other means to provide a reasonably flat surface.

2. The ends of the bars must be within 1.5° of square to the long axis. In field assembly such splices when erected must fit with 3°.

  • Maximum deviation from square to the end 300 mm (12 in) of the bar shall be 1.5°
  • Maximum gap on erected end bearing splices shall be 3°

For 35 mm (#11) and larger dowels, place SPEED SLEEVE over dowel so that end of dowel is between middle two straps and tighten lower bolts. For 32 mm (#10) and smaller dowels, place SPEED SLEEVE over dowel so that end of dowel is at slot in center strap and tighten only bottom bolt.

If required, place adapter insert inside sleeve.
Insert upper bar so that it rests concentrically on the lower bar and tighten two upper bolts. Bolts need to be tightened only sufficiently to cause straps to bend. Bolts do not need to be bottomed. Visual inspection is easy - no torque wrench required. Tightening can be done by hand as installation only takes 20-30 Nm.
